How would you describe the social situation in Sarawal Rural Municipality?
The social problems in our rural municipality are child marriage, dowry system, poverty, illiteracy, child labour, etc.
How do you think child marriage affects your society?
Child marriage means any formal marriage or informal union between a child under the age of 18 and an adult or another child. Child marriage is practicing since past years so it is the problem of society. If the girls marry at an early age she cannot get higher education and cannot live her life fully, she cannot fulfill her dreams. When she gets married at an early age she can face many problems including mental and physical problems. When she gets married there is more chance of bearing a child in an immature stage, and it will be harmful for mother and the child. The mother cannot give proper care to the baby, so directly or indirectly it is affecting our society.
How do you work against child marriage?
There are many programs which work against child marriage, like street drama, awareness programs, etc. In street drama artists play the roles of underage bride and groom getting married. After the marriage the programs start to show the bad effects of the marriage, and the upcoming problems coming from child marriage.
What do you think are the main causes of poverty in your rural municipality?
The main causes of poverty in the rural municipality are illiteracy, traditional agriculture methods, conflict, poor healthcare systems, floods and lack of jobs.
How do you work against these causes of poverty?
Our rural municipality provides different types of training and skill to work against poverty e.g. agriculture training, weaving and knitting training, plumbing etc. We are working on improving the quality of education, and we provide agricultural seeds and plants to the farmers at a very low price or even for free. The rural municipality and ABC Nepal are working together against poverty, ABC Nepal helps fund the aid to the poor people and rising their living standard. In this way we are working against the causes of poverty.
